Token BINs

As digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay become the standard for modern commerce, processing transactions securely requires understanding advanced payment tokens. For accurate transaction processing and risk analysis of tokenized payments, it is essential to distinguish between a physical card and its digital representation.

FPAN vs. DPAN Identification

  • FPAN (Funding PAN): The original 16-digit card number issued by the bank, used to retrieve core card attributes such as brand, type, category, and country.
  • DPAN (Device PAN): The secure digital token generated by a Token Service Provider (TSP), which appears in the transaction flow for mobile and digital wallets.
  • PAR (Payment Account Reference): A non-PAN identifier linking multiple DPANs to a single FPAN. Note that PAR is not a numeric prefix and cannot be retrieved via traditional BIN lookups.

Identifying Token BIN Ranges

ExactBins provides the capability to identify DPAN ranges, which are distinct from physical FPAN ranges.
